Welcome to the official website of Brauhaus Schmitz, Philadelphia’s only authentic German Bierhall and Restaurant.

Located on historic South St, Brauhaus Schmitz is the perfect place to bring family and friends to enjoy an afternoon or evening in the City.

We specialize in all things German; food, service, music and of course beer. Brauhaus Schmitz features a selection of 20 draught beers as well as an additional 80 to choose from in bottle representing every major beer producing country in the world. The menu is sure to please with traditional German fare as well as a few interesting twists that will make anyone a fan of German cuisine. All of our food will be prepared using only the freshest of local ingredients by a competent and inspired kitchen staff.

Please visit this site often to keep track of events and specials, but most importantly feel free to stop in for a bite to eat or to enjoy a glass of the finest beer the world has to offer.  Our atmosphere promises to leave everyone who visits us with a feeling of Gemütlichkeit.

Whatever you want to call it, it’s a good reason to have some specials!! From Thursday February 11th at 11:11 in the morning until midnight Tuesday February 16th Brauhaus Schmitz will help you “Over-indulge” Rhineland style.  Koelsch will be $1.50 in propper 0.2L glasses and a Kranz (tray consisting of 11 Koelsch) will be only $15! Chef Jeremy will cook up some specials including Fastnacht donuts to help you “fatten up” for your lenten Fast. We will decorate for Karneval and play plenty of Karneval music.

Come to Brauhaus to watch the big game on Sunday. We will be offering the Meter and Liters special. $35 gets you 1 Meter of Bratwurst with sides and 2 Liters of Beer (Hausbrau, Spaten, Franziskaner, Warsteiner). Not Hungry? No problem we will have our normal beer specials going on $4 Draft Hausbrau, Spaten, Franziskaner, Warsteiner. Please call for reservations we will take any size reservation for this night to ensure everyone has a good seat to watch the game.

We will be closed on Monday January 25th after 3:00pm for a Private Function. We apologize for any inconvenience. Come out and visit us again on Tuesday.

A creamy cheese soup made with dark beer, beef broth, Emmenthaler cheese, and topped with pumpernickel croutons.

Frisee, Fennel, and Blood Orange Salad                    $8

Frisee, fennel, and blood orange with a light citrus vinaigrette.

Duck Liver Pate en Croute                                           $13

Duck liver and pork pate wrapped in pastry.  Served with cherry compote, cornichons, and a frisee salad.

Oysters with Horseradish Shallot Mignonette                                                                     $14

Four fresh oysters with a horseradish and shallot mignonette. 

Smoked Trout Rillettes                                               $12

Smoked trout and cream cheese spread with chives.  Served with pickled beets and assorted breads.

Duck Sausage in Puff Pastry                                      $12

Housemade duck sausage wrapped in puff pastry and served with cherry compote.

Sirloin Steak with Crispy Onions and Potato Gratin                                                                             $25

8 oz. top sirloin steak topped with crispy onions and demi-glace and served with potato gratin and baby green beans.

Chicken with Riesling Sauce                                      $23  

Braised chicken in a Riesling cream sauce with green grapes and tarragon.  Served with spätzle and baby green beans.

Crab Stuffed Trout Filets                                              $27

Fresh trout filets stuffed with crab meat and baked.        Served with a warm frisee, fennel, and blood orange salad.

Pork Chop with Roasted Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, and Chestnuts                                                                 $25

10 oz. bone in pork chop served in a cast iron skillet with roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and chestnuts and drizzled with a Vitus gastrique.

Braised Venison Osso Buco                                          $25

Marinated venison shanks braised in red wine, juniper berries, onions, and served with a pomegranate demi-glace and a potato dumpling and baby green beans.

Nachtisch  (Dessert)

Kirschstrudel mit Eis                                                       $7

Cherries, spices, and quark wrapped in flaky filo dough and served with vanilla ice cream.

Linzertorte                                                                         $7

Raspberry preserves in a pastry shell made of ground hazlenuts, flour, and butter.
